What are your dietary, natural health or green living interests and/or restrictions (or, more generally, why are you interested in joining this site)????
Health problems made better by better food. We are now producing much of what we eat. We have a 40-acre farm, 8 acres of garden, raise our own chickens/eggs, milk goats, meat goats, sheep. We can, dehydrate, grind wheat, milk goats, make our own cheese, butter, etc.

Article from Reuters regarding how Pancreatic tumor cells use fructose to divide and proliferate. My question is if it increases cancer cells in one type of cancer, what does it do to other types as well?

Hi Rebecka - just wondering if you know anything to do with grape skins? I made Grape Jelly and have the skins left. Hate to just toss them but wanted something fun/good to make. Any ideas? Thanks!!

Thanks Rebecka. I just dried my first batch of bananas...not so good. But the carrots turned out lovely. I hope they reconsitute ok for soups, etc. I'll try the okra. These are going to be little packets that he can mix with water and have a meal. Thought I'd dry some dried pasta and chicken meat to go with. Thanks for the info!

Hi Rebecka, I was hoping you might have an idea or two for me. My 17 year old son - can't keep him full - used to eat alot of processed foods because they were easy. One of his favorites was the Betty Crocker Bowl Appetites. I purchased an entry level dehydrator and am going to try my hand at making a few of the "easy" meals for him. Do you have any suggestions as to a thickening agent? The article on your food preservation has inspired me! Thanks!

We sure know that feeling....for us we buy chicks, buy feed, buy permits, buy supplies for processings, then start to sell. We just hope that by the end of the season we actually begin to make some profit. Mark says we don't make a profit until about the last 500 birds. (We raise between 2-3K) We don't make a profit sooner because of the number we keep loosing to predators and such.
This I'm off to church for a sewing workday. I'll not stay for the evening meeting so I could possibly be available later in the day. Then tomorrow about 4:00 we have 3 ladies coming for a fun evening of movies. This is the first we've ever done something like this and we've talked about it for several years now. Wed I have to go to Farmer's Market in Elkhorn. Thurs we process in the AM but we are usually done by noonish time so that afternoon is a possibility as well. Friday I normally work at the church for just a couple of hours. My day is more felxible because pastor won't be there so I can go when I want. So I'd say I have time here and there. Loretta works Fri and Sat night and has a youth activity on Wed eve. So she has more daytime avaialbe as well. Let me know if any of this time is helpful.

I didn't realize you were on here until this morning when I was looking at the post about dealing with preparing food in a hectic life.... not the title but the way I would say it. Should have realized you would be as Christy gets around to all the markets and is such a great lady. So how did the festival go on Sunday? I was happy to help and really appreciate the pay as well. I'm always open to odd jobs so let me know if you ever need help some ways the last minute decission is easier for me.
