Christy & Chad Visit Kvam Family Farm (West Point, NE)

Today, Mark & Molly Kvam hosted an ice cream social and farm tour for their dairy and CSA customers and a few additional guests. We were lucky enough to receive an invite, and we were extra excited that they'd be serving Mark's "famous" honey-vanilla ice cream!!! I'll be posting the recipe here VERY soon :) (Thanks again, you two; we had a wonderful afternoon!) Below you'll find a few photos & videos of our experiences on their farm. It was a beautiful day, and we greatly enjoyed… Continue

A Peek Inside My Fridge

Several of you have mentioned to me that it's always interesting to see what folks have in their kitchen cupboards, etc. So, here it is.... a "peek inside my refrigerator." Hmmm....maybe I'll get really crazy and take photos of my cupboards, too. LOL!! Well here it is, for what it's worth. Although, I do also have a second fridge, freezer and deep freezer for "bulk" goods. Maybe we'll get to those at a later time :)

If any of you care to share your kitchen photos,… Continue

A visit with our neighborhood beekeeper!!

As you may be aware (from me mentioning it eighty million times lately), I was at the Benson Farmers Market a couple weeks ago, and there was a man there selling comb honey (honey that's still in the comb). Incidentally, the comb is 100% edible, in case you didn't know! But I digress...I got to chatting with this guy (John Gebuhr) and asked him where his hives are located. He told me that his "hive" (singular) was located about 6 blocks from the Benson Market....this intrigued me because… Continue

This week's Farmers Market finds (July 4-5, 2009)

Total "score" on Saturday at the Benson Farmers Market (61st & Maple)... gorgeous flowers from one vendor for just $7 bucks (didn't catch their name) and COMB HONEY from a local bee keeper named John Gebuhr (who, as it turns out, lives 2 BLOCKS away from me in Benson). Honey was just $5/pound. WOW, what a day!!!

And, I found an AWESOME treat at the Bancroft Market on Sunday, too.... Meteor cherries grown by Bill Seidler on semi-dwarf… Continue

New line of NATURAL ice creams available in stores!!!!

I have not tasted these, nor do I know how much they cost, but I did see in a magazine ad that Haagen Dazs has introduced a line of NATURAL ice creams, called FIVE, that contain very few (all real foods) ingredients. These are not organic ingredients by any means, but at least the ingredients list reads VERY clean. For example, the vanilla variety contains solely, "SKIM MILK, CREAM, SUGAR, EGG YOLKS, VANILLA (VANILLA BEAN FLAKES, VANILLA EXTRACT)." WOW!!...sounds like what… Continue
