Garden Update: Today's Harvest (Aug. 17, 2009)

Tore out our 3 cucumber plants tonight (all over-taken by bacterial wilt). It was a sad, sad evening....but we did manage to snatch a few edible items from the garden today, as well, so I suppose not all is lost.....

Oh, and if that watermelon photo makes you jealous in ANY way.....DON'T be...b/c it wasn't even ripe!!!!!!!!!!!!! We just got a bit impatient (and as I may have mentioned a few MILLION times, we have NO idea what we're doing!!!).… Continue

Baby carrots have been "snackable" but not very sweet. (Some tasted a bit like soap, if I'm being honest.) Think we should've left them in the ground longer b/c those that we picked later were definitely more tasty!! Barb (a member of this site) suggested that carrots really need a good cold spell before they sweeten up....we'll see with our fall… Continue

The Sweet Art of Healing

by Dr. Julian Whitaker

Jerome, a 53-year-old high school teacher, was in the hospital awaiting amputation of his left leg. He'd been receiving IV antibiotics to treat a diabetic ulcer, a wide, oozing open wound on his ankle, but this didn't halt the steady advance of gangrene, and he was told they had no choice but to take his leg.

PHASE 2.... of Christy & Chad's Square Foot Garden

So, it appears I have a moderate (to severe) case of Gardening ADHD. After all of the garden building, veggie planting, pruning, etc., we've finally reached a point at which there's really no work to do in the garden...except for picking the yummy rewards, of course! What to do!?!??!?! Well, why not add on?!?!? See that patch of lawn to the right of the garden??? Let's kiss it good-bye :)

And "Phase 2" of Chad & Christy's Square-Foot Garden… Continue
